A very ambiguous name for a mine here in Sweden, as there are probably a hundred ones with at least one of these names. The day these shots were taken, a thin layer of newly fallen snow together with an entirely grey sky and the winter darkness certainly gives a sure feeling of gloom.
This manganese mine is located in a deep chasm, where an inclined shaft is driven deep into the crack. Probably due to the nature of the chasm, the mine seems to be dry down to at least hundred meters. From 1957 and onwards, the manganese ore was transported for enrichment to nearby Stråssa mine. Surprisingly, this seemingly old fashioned mine survived until 1969. An amazing all-wooden head frame was later torched and today only the concrete foundation of it is left. Scattered around in the vicinity, some rusty fences and concrete blocks can be seen.
