5D Shutter release button

I cannot really understand why the shutter release is designed as it is. I often use gloves and the kind of stupid "ridge" in the rightmost end makes it very difficult to press the button acutally. It seems like the button was designed to be operated by the tip of a small finger - sometimes you find yourself pressing on the "ridge" rather on the button.

Not a big deal, but it's a minus for sure.
