Köping

The "cement factory" at Köping is no longer producing cement. Today, different qualities of calcium oxide, known as "burnt lime" is produced.

Although the limestone from Forsby was perfect for cement production and is still okay for lime for agricultural needs, it is not particularly white. To produce clay/lime coating for paper and board, whiteness is critical. Therefore, just around 100,000 metric tons of limestone is brought from Forsby nowadays, whereas the large quantities of bright white limestone arrive by ship from England and Norway.
