The ugly class Y3 DMUs entered service on SJ non-electrified lines back in 1966/67. Built by German Linke-Hoffman, they were at the time seen as a modern and comfortable approach to travel on long distance lines. However, the design showed to be less than dependable, and the units were taken out of service after less than twenty years of service.
