The modern mine at Bäckegruvan is far less exciting than its neighbouring and older sibling at Källfallet. However, its modern equipment made it survive longer but as so many other small- and medium sized mines in the region, the mine was closed as the last one in the Riddarhyttan area in 1979. The operations in the concentration plant continued some more years, but it is all today closed and the area and buildings have been taken over by car- and truck repair workshops. In the vicinity, older mines like Östergruvan, Persgruvan, Lerklockan and Pellegruvan still show some remains which were part of the Bäckegruvan mining system until the end.
