An abandoned furnace

Although not an impressive site per se, it is somewhat fascinating to find something like this out in a dense forest - even when the weather is bad and the colors are bleak. In the surroundings, overgrown concrete foundations and some scattered rubble can be seen. Without any firm knowledge, it seems like the site had something to do with peat processing and a guess is that it was put into operation in one of the wars.

But - what really happened here and when? Why was the furnace kept like this and why just one wall?
