Forget about pulling out the camera until
5 minutes minutes before the final bell rings

Walk to the black background bulletin board-

each kid..
Grins wryly
Grins shyly
Is implored to show teeth
(On some I have the thought to show less teeth
-but I don't say anything)

Handful of prior students just flash
a practiced grin
(hey-we've been used to this
since we've been in Kindergarten)

Some twinkle
Some sparkle

All with the eager light
of a new year about to begin
