Our elder statesman born around Sept 1990 we think.
Pound/Rescue kitten-right before Thanksgiving '90.
I had his brother all picked out.. Looked just like the Johnny cat fellow.. the perfect blaze on nose, tux, paws, tail tip all white.
Glossy, sleekly black and clean. Also a little gray tabby female in the group.
And then, there was this sleeping.. dirty, graybits, scraggly muffin kitten asleep in the in the middle of the two.
So I trot over to the Shelters office..
"what's the cage number?"
Ummmmmmmmmmmm.. don't know..
(trot back out-jot it down-)
trot back to office
"Female or Male?"
I don't know, they're inside the cage.
"Miss, blue collar or pink?"
(trot back out-muttering a bit-How was *I* to know-)
okay, blue collar-trot back in.
Okay, wait by the cage we'll send someone out.
-trot back out- Another fellow is there too, he's getting the gray tabby-
Guard comes out. Okay, which one are you getting, and you're getting this one..
My 'picked out' kitten is cowering in one corner, gray tabby cowering in the other.
Scraggly guy is sitting up now and looking pretty alert.
Guard hesitates while deciding which kitten to 'go for' first.
Scraggly guy leaps from top shelf, into the litter box-sand goes flying-
and UP and OVER the guards head.
(who has amazing reflexes and catches the fellow with both hands directly over his own head.)
Dawn-Melts. Awww.. he really wants out.. and his brother is so pretty I'm sure someone will pick him out!
"MISS you picked THAT one"
But, they're both black and white and have blue collars.... Same description really..
Guard relents. Hands me kitten.
Gets the gray one.. Fellow holding her chuckles and
tells me he's been watching this litter for a week..
I picked out a 'real' character.
(Experiance has proven this to be a massive understatement)
On way out of shelter-
I Point out to the Mom with 2 kids the really pretty kitten all by himself and leave with hopes
for the 3rd.
Ironically Bounders name came 2 or 3 days later when we were trying out different names-
It's the one he turned around too, and came trotting over to us..
"You rang?, and do you have pizza?"
(He had nosedived and nearly opened the delivery box the 2nd day we had him)
Bounder-has had many more adventures and we are very well trained...
