Indians had long fought over land. Later, in frustration and anger, they passed the "Indian Death Sentence" upon any Indian who sold or gave away the ancestral lands. Chief William McIntosh was one of the unfortunate recipients of this terrible penalty. General Willcox dealt with this close-hand with the cession of the land around the Ocmulgee in 1818 and thereafter.
