Oak Grove (Old Telfair) Was Our First Stop - Then Old Feronia

Left to Right: Melba Giddens and Kathern Bennett and Kathleen Fann and Fannie Atkinson stand by the sign that says that Oak Grove has been around a long time - since 1846! At the time it was in old Telfair County and later was cut into the new county of Coffee. These ladies also viewed the last mortal resting place of Capt. Julius Warren Boyd and his wife Marcella Smith Boyd. It is told that Capt. Boyd gave some of his land for the Oak Grove Cemetery and/or church property, hoping that the gesture would be looked upon favorably by the father of Marcella - whose hand he was seeking. We are not sure about all that but one thing is for sure - he married Marcella and they had many children. One of the granddaughters told me the plantation was called "Deerland."
