Maj. Charles Irby Shelton was a major force in the formation of this church. During the War of 1812 he was captured by the British and taken to England. Somehow he made it back to Jacksonville, Ga. He helped my GGGG Grandfather Lt. Joseph Williams, Rev War, get his pension reinstated after it had been stopped by a political enemy. He is buried at Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery, Jacksonville, Ga.
