Cap'n Hoke McDonald was the last man to get a captain's steamboat license to run the rivers of the Altamaha and Ocmulgee from Darien to Macon. He left Telfair County, his home, in 1927, with steamboats about a thing of the past, and moved to Brunswick and started a marine construction business. Interestingly, one of the honorary pallbearers at his funeral was Captain Emmett Boyd. I wonder if he might have been some of the old Boyds of old Telfair County?? --[Photo Credit: Roy McGregor]
