The National D-Day Memorial is located on a hilltop in Bedford,VA. Bedford was chosen because 19 of its soldiers were killed on D-Day. It was the greatest loss from any one American community.
The site is magnificant. It overlooks Bedford and the mountains.
My father's cousin, Norman Bufe, died on June 6, 1944 on the beaches of Normandy. I never heard of this Memorial until the 65th anniversary of D-Day was approaching. My mother contributed annually to the World War II Memorial, and I'm sure she would have done the same for the D-Day Memorial. This cause is now on my list. Joann Bufe Marksberry
