The colour is genuine, though exaggerated; achieved as follows; Clear night - 500mm.reflex lens - 35mm,25mp.sensor- best posible focus - slightly underexposed single hi res jpeg cropped in picasa then contrast increased by adjusting highlight & shadow - use colour slider to remove any yellowishness - finally increase saturation. I find only a few of the best images carry enough digital information, to allow this to work well.

Image taken at same time and settings as previous photo but wouldn't colour up. Maybe the focus wasn't as good or the exposure adjustment may have been set higher; unfortunately the camera doesn't record this information.

An untouched original from the Sony 500mm reflex lens. Some people regard the lens as too "soft" but I can't complain especially while using it for this type of work. The next 4 images were taken during the same session.

This one coloured up easily but I wasn't able to pick this image as being better or different to others that wouldn't.

This, and the next 3 images were taken the night after, the last "super moon", using my old Minolta 75-300AF, which, for a cheap plastic lens, produces amazing photos; sometimes better than my expensive heavyweights, in the same circumstance. The night was quite cloudy and it became a waiting game to get even a partially obscured shot like this.
