The city has a long history of occupation by many cultures and rulers, including Greeks & Romans
Roman Emperor Hadrian visited Jerash in AD 129–130 for which the triumphal arch was built.
Earliest settlements here date all the way back to the Neolithic period (7500–5500 BC)
