The last bastion of steel making in my home of Teesside, now stands silent
Teesside was founded on Steel making and British made steel was inherent in building the modern world, having being used in construction all around the globe
Back in the 1850s, there were 99 blast furnaces lining the banks of the local River Tees, these eventually dwindled to this last survivor, but it all eventually fell silent in late 2015 as the current owner SSI extinguished the flames for the last time
Quite literally, an end of an era
