This is in the category of “One of My Favorites”, not so much because it’s technically excellent, but because of what it represents.

I had just moved here to my little restored farm-home in Quincy Florida leaving the life, (and the studio), I had before in Jacksonville. I had just gone through two major surgeries on my neck and my back. The doctor that performed the surgeries had me sign papers that stated to the effect that I knew the possibility was very high that I was going to be permanently paralyzed, (but ALIVE), from the two operations. There was about an 80% possibility that I was going to be paralyzed from the neck surgery from my neck down and about a 60% possibility that I was going to be paralyzed from my waist down from the lower back surgery.

I’m happy to report I was in effect a “miracle patient”, for the surgeries went well and for several years afterwards I didn’t even have a limp when I walked.

Dorothy was the very first client that I photographed after the surgeries, and I was still so weak I was forced many times during the sitting to actually sit down to rest and ease the pain from my back. She lived in Panama City, (about a 2 & ˝ hour drive from here) and had tried to find a local photographer in that city to do some erotic photography for her to give to her husband. She was so young looking when she first pulled up, I demanded to see her driver’s license. She only looked about 16 or 17 years old, but in fact she was in her mid 20’s, married and a Mom.

The different photographers that she had approached in Panama City were apparently not very good and she was not comfortable with them when she checked them out in person. They made her feel very uneasy when she approached them to do erotic photography, “leering” at her, and apparently making some off-color remarks during the interview. She had found my web site and called me on the phone, and after talking to me for awhile and learning of my history in photography and seeing some of the samples I sent her, she decided to make the long drive over here to Quincy to meet me.

At one point when we were sitting in the kitchen to rest my back and ease the pain during the session, she started laughing. When I asked what was so funny, she explained that she didn’t even run around nude in front of her husband. Now she was so comfortable with me, she was actually sitting in my kitchen, enjoying a glass of tea and chatting, and suddenly the coolness of the oak chair on her naked butt came to her as a shock by reminding her that she was sitting there totally nude.

The sitting took a long time, as she had so far to drive and I wanted to give a good variety of images for her to choose from. I actually combined outside shots with interior images in front of the fireplace and in the bedroom, so the sitting actually lasted a couple of hours after combining with my “rest time”. She was a good sport about the time it took, and was delighted with the finished portraits.
