Two hundred and twenty nine years ago today, a declaration was signed by representatives of all thirteen original states to notify the far away trading companies, King and all the other powers, that this country would be free from that time on. It took more than a signed document to make this come true, and for years a bitter war was fought to finally achieve the freedom and the right to govern our own lands. In memory of that signing, … that declaration that we would be independent, … we as a United Nation of fifty states, independent of foreign rule, now celebrate the date of July 4th.
