"K" is for "Knife"

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

Most of my friends have teased me at least once or twice that I always have a knife on me of some kind. By now, anyone that’s been following my PAD knows that I collect knives. Not just ordinary knives though. The knives that I collect are unusual, … rare, valuable or with very interesting tales behind them. This little guy is a Rhino brand with a polished ivory handle. The motto of this brand is “Tough, Sharp, Dependable”, and indeed I keep it razor sharp and it’s one of my favorite knives to carry in a pocket. It was given to me by a sergeant of the Jacksonville Police Office that used to carry it with him on his duties watching over prisoners in the JSO short-term jail. He used this knife to cut the bed sheets from the neck of a prisoner that had killed himself in a cell. This sounds macabre perhaps, but rather than feeling odd about it, I’ve often felt sadness for that nameless man so many years ago, and wonder what life of quiet desperation caused him to want to murder himself. I often think of him, and hope whoever and wherever his family might be that they have found some measure of peace.

No Tanny, … the knife in the “Egg and Whisk” is a bone handled Buck knife, my favorite brand, and is almost double the size of this Rhino brand with the ivory handle. (It’s very difficult to find Ivory handled knives anymore, which I personally think is a good thing.) I love bone and ivory handled knives but swap out a huge selection of different knives on an almost daily basis in my pocket. The Buck knife is much heavier but fits in my big hand much better. Both are single blade knives. Perhaps someday I will do a PAD photo of ALL my knives.

Powerful story... is this the same knife that you had in the egg/whisk pic?

The story is as good as the image, well done.
