Bedtime Reading

Teddy is beginning to get into reading, which comes as a big relief to us. However, like any kid, he prefers
to select his own material rather than what his teachers would like him to read. That's where grandparents
come in handy. For Christmas, Teddy and Ben received both The Dandy and The Beano Annuals from The Wife's
parents. These comic books - featuring loony characters like Desperate Dan, Beryl the Peril and Korky the Kat - both
began publishing in the late 1930s and have not missed a week since. Both are now beloved UK institutions - beloved
by eveyone except strict parents and teachers (to get an idea of the content, just look at the front and then the back cover).

The best bits of the year are compiled into an annual edition; Ted decided The Dandy Annual
would be the perfect reading material before nodding off.

I'm waiting until he falls asleep so I can steal it!

Evokes childhood memories of reading in bed. My Mom would order me to turn out the light and I'd hide under the covers reading with a flashlight!

I did the same once and strange thing in it, I still read the same things today. My most intelligent books are Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin and so on.

Wow, they still make these? I used to get Dennis the Menace and 'Oor Wullie' -- we had a big collection of the annuals. Great shot.

I had no idea they still made these - I used to enjoy them myself
as a small kid. :)

I was so pleased when my kids took a book from my hands I didn't care WHAT they read. And their literary tastes have magtured on their own :) Funny shot! and story.

I have not heard of Dandy...looks fun! I really like the colorful characters there. I'm sure Teddy will thank you for this image when he's a grown man and has his own kids who will enjoy Dandy as well!

Great photo :) I've never heard of Dandy before. My son brings a collection of Calvin & Hobbes to bed with him every night! This is a fun photo that I'm sure your son will enjoy!

He reads! What more could those teachers possibly want! lol. Great shot. I actually like his bed sheet, can I have that? lol. Looks like a fun book and I can nearly hear your pride with the announcement of his reading capabilities.

This is such a lovely photo - one to treasure. My turn for Dandy next.

The Dandy is published here in Dundee by DC Thomson.
Dundee is famous for the 3J's - Jam, Jute and Journalism.
