Padre Burgos Tragedy

The reports on the number of dead is confusing.

The TVs and papers reported 12 to 13 dead.
Someone at the site said there were only six.

In the attached pictures, the Makati Rescue Team and the Philippine Air
Force Rescue Squadron work hand in hand together with wreck recovery
equipment from PNR. There are two cranes and four locomotives at the
site. The equipment came from Lucena, Hondagua and Naga. The Makati team
have their Rescue 911 style "jaws of life" hydraulic equipment that
seemed no match to the heavy rail cars.

When I went there Saturday Morning (on my bike) the teams were trying
in vain to cable up the last car to at least roll it upside down to find
more bodies trapped underneath its side. Until I left almost 10AM,
there was no sign of success yet. One of the cranes went to Malicboy to
reposition the locomotive.

Philippine Army and PNP troops are there to provide security. I saw
reporters and cars from GMA7 (complete with sattelite dish set-up),
ABS-CBN, ABC5, Philippine Star, Bombo Radyo, and of course the ee_yano_yaan
reporter was there.

Also included is a close up of the sad state of the railroad.
Dilapidated ties (travesa), Missing spikes. hidden behind the rail is human
excreta.
