..and then I remembered that the 70-200 F4/L had another setting on it for the range of distance from the subject!!!! Ahah! Maybe this was the problem...so I switched it from 3 meters to infinity to 1.2 meters to infinity. That seems to have solved my problem and my lens doesn't have to go back!
