Scans of my Left Eye After DMEK Surgery

I have a genetic condition called "Fuchs Dystrophy" which causes cloudiness and glare in vision, which can become so debilitating that it becomes impossible to drive and since I live in an area with no public transportation, I decided to have surgery on each eye during which donor tissue is transplanted under the cornea which replaces the pumps in the eye that stopped removing the excess fluid that blurs the vision.

The upper scan shows a "ruffled" look of the transplant under the cornea indicating that it is not fully adhering to it as it is supposed to.

During the surgery air is injected into the eye to hold the transplant in place. In the case of this surgery, my second one, it was necessary to inject more air into the eye on two different days. The second scan shows the eye one day after the second procedure and the transplant looks very smooth and totally adhered. You can also see the bubble of air that is injected into the eye to hold the transplant against the cornea.

Finding an experienced proficient corneal surgeon is a challenge because they're all over the country, none close to where I live. I traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for these two surgeries and am hoping that I am not going to have to fly back for further work on the second eye. First eye has recovered fantastically. It was my "worse" eye and after recovery saw way better than it had before.

Please send healing thoughts my way, since the current eye is taking its sweet time clearing up because of the blurring caused by the air which has to dissipate naturally. It is my "camera" eye and I'm missing it.

You're in my thoughts, and I hope this resolves soon so you can get back to taking pictures!
