The holes are called "fenestrations"

I'd been looking for a monstera deliciosa for a long time and hadn't seen one until I came across this one which had several torn leaves on it, but since it was the only one I could find (at Lowe's) I bought it and dove into YouTube videos to learn how to grow it.

Apparently, I'm doing well with its care since the two new leaves I've seen since removing damaged ones have fenestrations in them.
