Just recently came across some videos on YouTube about how to make these since butterflies need moisture and nutrients that these can provide. I filled this plastic planter saucer with play sand, potting soil and a bit of Epsom Salt. I made landing spots with rocks and a couple of downturned small Duralex bowls that I've used for doling out cooking ingredients. Finding a place for it that is sheltered from rain is challenging, because it needs to be near to plants that will attract butterflies, but I'll give it a try.
