I have come to an agreement with the resident of this tunnel. I will make no more efforts to dislodge it and it will no longer throw out dirt and mess up my front walk. Since there is no damage to the surrounding plants, I am assuming it is a chipmunk (at least not a vole, some of which ate all the roots under a nandina and azalea plant several years go and killed them).
