P1050622 Suspect Bob B. is correct - it's a Mydas Fly

Notice the yellow on the tips of the legs. At any rate, no matter what it is, it buzzed very loudly and was very aggressively chasing around me, so I high-tailed it into the house. The insects this year seem to be very aggressive - I haven't been buzzed around as much in previous years.

Hard to tell from this angle, but the antennae here are knobbed, while a horse flie's antennae are pointed at the end. Also the eyes are 'wrong'. Try midas fly: . And try this image: Look at the "fringe" on the hind legs in your pic and this one. This species also has lighter colored feet. These flies can be pretty large and are often noisy. The "aggression" is a ruse! Best, Bob B.
