You add dimensionality to the image by using the wildflowers as a foreground, and layering the rippling water and golden buildings and pilings behind them. A warm and nostalgic image. I used the same wildflowers and pilings in my own treatment of this scene athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/80831710 , however I obscured the buildings behind the wildflowers and stressed instead the vertical forms of the pilings, both in reflection and in reality. I deliberately muted the color to create a more somber, less nostalgic mode. It is always fascinating to see how two artists interpret a nearly identical subject with nearly identical concepts, yet can still reach different conclusions.
