I love the pattern that the men sitting there make, each a little different but basically all have the same pose, and doing the same thing...resting on their lunch hour. I like how they fan out slightly at the sides, and present the possibility that there are other men sitting there in line who didn't make it into the frame of your camera.
The backdrop makes this image. Every bar on that wall (or door?) echoes the long horizontal line of the mean sitting at its base. The two lamps echo the round heads. And the huge vertical bar springs out of the head of the man in the exact middle. This is a perfect example of how centering a composition works beautifully. Most compositions are generally off-center to create tension and imbalance, but here, balance is the key to the success of this image.
