The word "foss" in Icelandic means waterfall. There are hundreds of "fosses" throughout the country. Gulfoss, the Golden Falls, is one of Iceland's most beautiful and clearly most popular. It's called Golden Falls because on a sunny day the plunging water supposedly appears golden and rainbows are clearly visible. I missed that day, but I did not miss the drama of these falls where the water cascades down two steps into a 2.5km long canyon below.
