Oatman is an old gold mining town. The wild (or semi-wild) burros are the descendants of burros brought here by miners in the late 1800's. When the miners no longer needed them, they were turned loose. Today these descendants wander the streets of Oatman during the day and are probably Oatman's #1 tourist attraction.
