The Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad owns a run-down single-track line that runs through my home town of Bedford, Ohio. This little track has always attracted me. In the face of the big trains that run on Norfolk Southern's parallel Cleveland Line, W&LE runs little trains that carry scrap metal and other miscellaneous freight through scenic, old-time-flavored sites. Here's some of my shots of this line, as well as other sites owned by the WLE.

UPDATE: The line through Bedford has been leased to the new Connotton Valley Railway. Cliff Perry, the general manager of Trolleyville, wanted to run passenger excursions between Bedford and Falls Junction. He went to the Wheeling, and they offered him the whole line! He leased GP-35 2652, and serves two freight customers during the week and runs excursions on the weekends.

ANOTHER UPDATE: The Connotton Valley Railroad went bankrupt, and the line is now operated by the Cleveland Commercial Railroad. There are two customers, Weingold Scrap Metal on E. 93rd St., and an outdoor wire storage yard on the site of the old Lear Siegler plant in Maple Hts.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: The CCR is thriving! It has taken over the Randall Industrial from the E. 55th Street yard to Stouffer's in Solon, and a subsidiary, Cleveland Harbor Belt, is providing expanded rail service to the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Port Authority.
