"The Wave" is a very special place in Coyote Buttes Area of the Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, located pretty well on the border between Arizona and Utah. Access is restricted to a maximum of 20 visitors per day and permits must be obtained from the BLM months in advance.

Getting to The Wave requires a three mile hike through the desert wilderness. There is no trail although there are the occasional cairns if you're lucky enough to spot them. The hike wouldn't have been too tough had it not been for the 100 degree heat. Starting the hike with 3 1/2 quarts of water, snacks, and camera gear had me loaded down. However I wished I had brought even more water because I ran out on the way back and really struggled to make it back to the parking lot. However it was all worth it!
