Big Bend National Park is probably the world's best kept secret. It's huge (almost 800,000 acres) and it's really out there in the middle of nowhere (south-west Texas, along the "big bend" in the Rio Grande along the Mexican border). However the scenery is awesome, particularly around sunrise and sunset when the warm light just seems to make everything glow. There's even a ghost town (Terlingua, abandoned in the mid 1940s) to add character to the region.
