Message from Ingo Waschkies
Welcome to my galleries of wild birds from home and many trips abroad.

The primary purpos of these galleries is to display as many aspects of as many species as possible from my different birding trips. Although my interest in bird photography has been steadily increasing, I'm still a keen birdwatcher, and this site is as much a showcase for my personal memory (my 'ticks') as for anyone else, so please excuse the sometimes quite variable quality. Some photos are just poor record shots (especially before 2009), while others will yield good prints. Nevertheless, over time my equipment has improved dramatically and so has the general image quality.

Since 2011, images are generally uploaded with maximum width 1000 pixels and maximum height 800 pixels. So you will need to click on 'original size' to see the best version of each shot (note that the other versions are recompiled and recompressed by pbase and tend to appear a little soft). Older images have been uploaded with maximal width/height at 800 pixels (which is currently the pbase default 'large size') apart from the pictures in the 'Favorite Shots' gallery.

Much of my birding is what I call opportunistic bird photography - I travel around and take pictures of birds that happen to fly in front of my camera. I rarely have the patience to stay in a particular stake-out for long times (but sometimes I do of course).

Current equipment

Canon 5DMKIII (since March 2013), Canon 1DMKIV , 600 mm f4 L IS II USM, 300 mm f2.8 L IS USM, Canon 1.4 tc Mk III, Canon 2 tc Mk III (since March 2011), Speedlite 580 EXII

The vast majority of my shots is now done with the Canon 5D MKIII and 600mm & teleconverters. The 1DMKIV serves only as my emergency backup. I frequently use the 2x tc for small birds. I almost never use flash anymore.
