This gallery is a work in progress. It features the plants and insects of the Native Plant, or "Butterfly Garden" portion of the Ulistac Nature Preserve.
Here you will find some of the more important native shrubs and trees of Ulistac, as well as a number of insects that are specific to native plants.
More insect and plant photos have been placed in sub-galleries for those who wish to learn more.
At this time a pond is being created adjacent to the Butterfly Garden. A permanent pond will enhance the environment in many ways by introducing
new plants, insects*, reptiles and amphibians, as well as providing drinking water for mammals.
* A pond will not add any more mosquitos to the neighborhood once it is established. The mosquito that presents a nuisance and danger to humans in the
area is the Asian Tiger, which breeds in ephemeral puddles and containers that collect rainwater; it does not breed in living ponds with frogs and minnows.
This is a wonderful index especially of the plants @ Ulistac. As we walk through Ulistac, we often wonder what we are looking at when there is no sign to indicate. Keep up the wonderful work!
