Coccinellidae: Lady Beetles

          Lady (or Ladybug or Ladybird) Beetles undergo four-stage metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa and
          imago (adult). This gallery shows the last three stages (I haven't found their eggs yet).

          Note re nomenclature: Ladybug Beetles are beetles, not bugs; nevertheless, the term "Ladybug"
          is still acceptable in the US and "Ladybird" is correct in the UK. There is some effort today
          to drop the "bug" completely and call them Lady Beetles.

You find a mating pair and look for differences. See the 3rd row middle and note that the male is on top. There are distinct differences in the b&w pattern on the pronotum; also, males in this family are usually smaller.
