Black Mustard, Brassica nigra

Black Mustard, Brassica nigra

This annual is a major invader all around the disturbed margins of the south
SF Bay. New growth appears in mid-winter; intense blooming begins in April.

Reddish stems, curvy; highly variable leaves, deeply wrinkled, with toothy edges, not sharp.
Grows to eight feet in large patches where it chokes out all competitors except for a few grasses.
