Wild Gazania, Santa Cruz Mountains

This exotic orange-yellow composite was found by itself at Edgewood Park on 2/14/08.

They are common near the Horseshoe Lake upper parking lot in May, and occasionally on the levees around the South Bay.

Native of S. Africa; may be species G linearis.

Looks like you've got a non-native ornamental originally from Africa that shows up in the bay area called Gazania linearis.
