Common Ringlet, female ovipositing

Common Ringlet, Coenonymphia tullia

The local subspecies is also known as the California Ringlet. In our area this species has three flights and
can be found Feb-Nov. Highly variable, sometimes much darker; even so, it does not resemble any other species.
