Killdeer make their nests in open and very vulnerable places. This one is doing a broken-wing act while its mate
flies around in a state of alarm, trying to lure passersby away. Given the abundance of human traffic at this site,
Oka Ponds, it has to go through this act several dozen times a day. Now imagine a typical night for this pair
with foxes, skunks, racoons and other predators and you can see these birds lives in a near-constant state of alarm.
