A caterpillar was collected for observation at the McClellan Ranch Nature Center. It died and two fly larvae emerged.
The larvae required no food; they pupated in the collection jar and one of the pupae produced this Tachina Fly.
Note: most Tachinas are parasitoids of Lepidoptera caterpillars; it has been reported that 80% of all caterpillars succumb to tachinids.
Will attempt to ID species; also would like to have a timeline of events, caterpillar sp, more data, etc.
