A male Bee Fly, family Bombyliidae, pronounced bom bi LIE i dee, gets nectar from deep in a Milk Maid flower.
The plant is a native, a member of the Mustard Family, Brassicaceae, blooming in spring in the woodlands and foothills.
The Bee Fly is a fly of Order Diptera -- two wings only. They stake out territories that comprise some number of flowers; if a variation
occurs in the pattern of flowers, the bombyliid reacts by visiting all the flowers repeatedly, apparently until the new pattern is memorized.
