This pair is tandem ovipositing. The male releases the female, she drops to the
surface and deposits an egg (or more than one?) in a quick splash, while the male
executes a short mid-air loop; then he immediately regrasps the female, all in about
a half second. None of our other species that tandem-oviposit release the female.
