Lythrum hyssopifolium, an aquatic plant found at the edges of
many of our ponds; it typically appears after water level drops in summer.
Pale blue/purple flowers, some with five petals, others six, without
pedicels. California Loosestrife, a similar species, has pedicels.
Hyssop: ancient Greek name for an aromatic herb.
Lythrum: from a Greek word for blood, alluding to the alleged
styptic (blood-clotting) qualities of certain species in this genus.
