This is a Dynakit Mark II converted to a Mark III: it has the KT-88's, choke power supply and 525V
rated electrolytics of a Mark III, accomplished via a conversion kit. My dad built the original kit
in the mid-50's and bought the conversion kit from Dynaco a few years later.
The amp works perfectly and sounds great. It has that warm, lush sound we expect from these amps. I
have both the Mark II and Mark III manuals and a mimeographed letter from Dynaco describing the
conversion kit, which included a choke, a 525V-rated quad electrolytic, a new rectifier tube and
two new KT-88's for (get this) $19.95! This makes it a Mark III except that there's no 4-ohm output.
Note: part of the conversion was to replace the 5Y3 rectifier with a GZ34. I presume this is a 5Y3
with a higher voltage rating. Apparently they couldn't go to a 5U4 as that would require 3 amps of
filament current vs the GZ34's 1.9 amps. In any case, there's a 5Y3 in there now so I'm looking for
a GZ34 for full authenticity.
