Peterson Saskatchewan "No one ever parks on Main Street anymore"

Peterson SK on Hwy # 5 west is one more town with many photographic opportunities. The doors are locked and the windows boarded up for the time being, but it will not be to long before the doors will be broken down and the old buildings will be ruined. The old church has got a new coat of paint by someone that can't see it go, but the paint tray remains near the gate (maybe they will come to do some "touch ups") ???? If you listen you can still hear the kids of the 70's playing in that tree house!!! Strange thing but there are NO sidewalks in town!!! Enjoy...Mike

Does anyone know of a school in the Peterson area whose roof might have collapsed? I am thinking late 30s or in the 40s. Trying to figure out a story my dad tells. His name is Joseph Skarra born 1929. His dad by the same name was a blacksmith. From Bruno but went to school in Peterson.

dan kuchapski lived mile south of peterson.remember everthing like yesterday.went to school their. also when to greek catholic church there. was in christmas concert in hall. dad hall wheat to 2nd elevator there the pool'.had my haie cut there. skated on rink there and curled in curling ring.no shortage of action.

Hi Nester Budney, and Mark Rogers (Rychuk). I visited my Baba and Dido (John and Jennie Kuchapski) Peterson. Frances Rychuk was Dido's (Grandfather's) Sister, and Uncle Harry Ewanishen was my mom's sister's husband.

Thank you, Mike, for your effort. I came to Peterson from the Ukraine at the age of 5 in 1938. My father, Walter, was the blacksmith and we lived in the house at the back of the shop. I now am retired and live in BC. I attended Red Willow school for 9 years. I would like Emails from folks who recognize my name.

I grew up on a farm near Peterson. My parents and brother are buried in the cemetery at All Hallows Church in Kildrum, which is approx. 3 miles south of Peterson. Starting the May long weekend 2016, my family has taken on the job of restoring the church. We are looking for volunteers and interesting in contributing to this project can contact me @ kevin@noramd.ca

I have lived across the road from Peterson all of my life and my great grandfather Ephrem Dauvin was one of the pioneers that settled in the area. Even though there is not a whole lot left in the town except some houses and the church which still has mass every Sunday Peterson Pride is still very much alive - we have had a lot of young families move back the last few years and the roots that Peterson was built on run pretty deep. It was neat to come across this site and read the comments.

Peterson still has a few houses kept up very well and lived in. My father Jake Saretsky still lives there independently at the age of 92. He was the former, and past, Pool agent in Peterson. He and my mother Mary moved to Peterson in the late 50's and first lived in the Pool house on Main Street near St. Agnes Parish Church. The Pool built them a new house in the early 60's which Dad still lives in although it has since been enlarged on three sides with an attached garage. St. Agnes Parish is still a very vibrant community church with church service evdery Sunday, a parish council, regular social events and fall fowl suppers. They also host weddings, funerals, etc. in the town community hall. Arlis, 2011

Ron Saretzky , I took grade one at Forest Grone school in 1952. The teacher was Peter Kondra I think. There were Motalagas and Zurvinskis in school

Thanks Mike. I grew up in the late 30's and 40's, seven miles east of Peterson, where we bought out weekly supplies. I was an altar boy at the Roman Catholic church, also went to bazars and saw my first movie in the town hall. I attended a one room school, Forest Grove, before it was moved to Peterson. The Saretzky's lived two miles south of us and the Budney's two miles west of us. Late in life Mrs. Budney married my grandfather, Henry Smolkowski, who lived about five miles southeast of Peterson.

I remember going to Peterson Sask. once when i was a little kid, back in the late 1960,s. My dad was born their . The only thing left of the sod shack was a dent in the ground . He never lived there for long ? His mother passed on at child birth. The familys back then sure don't like to talk about there history. I remember seeing the spot with the church and a hill . I think ads mom was buryed in Dana? peter harasym. was my dad. thanks rod harasym

I have a 1929 Calendar plate, also, the year my father was born. His mother was from here, I believe, Martha Smolkowski, daughter of Henry Smolkowski. Fun to see it in pictures!

I clearly remember Jerome Felix's store, and getting a hair cut at the barber shop (can't remember his name, but he wore deer skin leather shorts and drove a Model A coupe). My Uncle Harry Ewanishin lived in, I believe, the first house on the north side on the west end of main street. I initially grew up on a farm 2 miles west and 2 miles north of Highway 2 & 5 on the way to Saskatoon; then moved into Meacham and finished high school at Viscount in 1968.

Hello Mike, what a surprise to be forwarded your gallery photos of a town I grew up in. I am living in BC but still regularly visit relatives who still live there, not in town as few people live there, but on the farm Yes, I went to school in Peterson when it was a two room school. many happy memories of bazaar dinners, ball games and Xmas concerts at the hall. How did you come across this place to take such eloquent photos?
