I have a 4 "x 6" " Farmers Pocket ledger " " Compliments of M. A. Longworth "Bents Sask. Is there a place for this their ? My great Grandparents farmed near Harris in the late 1800 's and thinking this was theirs.

This is excellent. And I really respect the information and the willingness of the landowners to make this available. I've been out here once with a group for photos and our leader got permission. There are a few unsafe places like wells and we knew about them going in. Was also nice to not feel as if we were trespassing. Thank you very much for the opportunity.

I have been their a few times in the last 10yrs,incredible place lost in time. Over the years some things seem to deteriorate and more things seem missing. For me it would seem wrong to disturb anything. It is too bad that place could not be preserved, as it is the early essence of the settlers and prairie history.

Bents, Saskatchewan was named after Bents, Scotland of which the first residents of this ghost town immigrated from. My grandfather grew up in the residence above the general store that his father owned. People left the town in the 60's to move to larger towns such as Biggar, Perdue, Harris and Tessier.

interesting comments! but quit lynching the photographer! photos would have been taken prior to 15 jun 2006. Were no trespaasing signs up then? We've not heard from Mr. Parney here. And you can be sure many people have photographed various sites around that town. Just read back to all the comments and the great memories people have. Quit spoiling it.

I own some of the property shown and there was no permission granted. This is all private property and trespassers could get hurt as everything is very old and could collapse and as in many old yard sites there are old wells and with all the rain in the last 3 years they are all caveing in. Thank Mike Longworth

I can tell stories and stories, i lived in Bents,from age 18, the history and the charictars that lived there are very unique my house on the hill still stands, I can still hear the music from that dance hall, the hardwood floors crackling to the footsteps that echoed through the night, the laughter, the good old rumbles that happened nearly every dance, people peeing outside my window as my window was a few feet from the hall, the trains rumbling through, grain trucks up and down the hill, and the wonderful people coming to the store, the glorous sandpit, the top of the hill covered in crocous everyspring, the calving every spring,the horses, and my 1st. cigar at a tender age, and 1st sip of vodka out of the drawer in the unique postoffice i still have a box there,oh ya it has history that little ghost town...

Why is it I no longer seem to be able to search and find anything about Tennex Saskatchewan anymore My mother was born there along with her brother and sisters . Her mother and father had a homestead there. The Family name was Logan.

My father, George Edgar St.George, then 18 or 19 years old, two other St.Georges ( Robert Oliver and Hercules Frank ), and his Brother-in-law, Edgar Coleman, all of Ottawa, each obtained land under the Sask. Land Grant program in 1912 & 13. Their land was about five or so miles west of Bents which was named Piche at the time. ( It's actually peesh-ay but I don't know how to make an accent grave on the keyboard ). According to Archives Canada / "Post Offices and Postmasters " the Piche post office was established " 1908-09-18 " and the name was changed to Bents " 1930-05-01 ". My father played for the Zealandia Maple Leafs hockey team ( Zealandia is about 12 or so miles south of Bents on Rt. 7 ) of the Goose Lake Hockey League. Goose Lake is a very large wetlands lake up Rt. 7 towards Saskatoon on the south side of Rt. 7 near Tessier. His team won the championship in 1910,11, 12 and I have a team photo. They all returned to Ottawa eventually but I have not yet found out when. I find it fascinating to look at the photos of the interior of the general store, etc., and imagine him there. Nice Photos. Lived in Bents 1939-42. Dad (same name Bought for Pool. Other buyer Norm Potter. Mike Longworth had the store. Did you know a Harvard Trainer crashed right behind the town (3 Places) Christmas Eve 1940. Air Force didn't get plane or pilot out till Jan 3. Thanks for letting me see the Photos. Iwas an industrial photographer for 38 years.

Hi there. Lovely photos. I am a direct descendant of one of the familys who emigrated to Saskatchewan in 1905. As one of the first settlers at this place when the railway came through they were allowed to choose the name of the settlement. They named it Bents, the name of the farm they emigrated from in Scotland, UK. I still farm at Bents Farm, West Calder, Nr Edinburgh, Scotland. These people were my Great ggrand parents. I have a picture of their original sod house at Bents, Saskatchewan & correspondence from them. I remember letters addressed to here from Bents, Harris, SK. George Elder Duncan

i spent the best years of my youth at Bents with my Gramma and Grampa Levasseur -i am writing a fantasy "book" which includes places and names of the people i knew beautiful pictures -let me know if i can be of help to anyone's memory of the place thanks tony

Hi Mike Just to let you know I was in Bents yesterday. Most everything is still as your pictures show. I took some pictures but would be repeating most of what you show. Some of the buildings are becoming dangerous and you have to be very careful even outside in the back. We discovered an old well that is totally open. Anyway thanks for your pictures it got me interested to go and have alook for myself. Bob M

I went here in August 2006 and took a few pictures. ( and getting directions from Harris wasn't an easy task !!! ). There was no breeze that day and everthing was so quiet. Would have loved to see it years ago. Your pictures are great and I really enjoyed them.

Very nice pictures Mike. I visited Bents on a couple of occasions about 8-10 years ago and only took a couple of pictures. Your pictures sure bring back the memories of that place. Bents is a classic Saskatchewan Ghost Town for sure. Thanks.

Mike, you have taken some beautiful photos!! I really enjoyed them, and looked at all the "Ghost Towns"....seems such a shame that sooner or later vandals will have broken most of it to pieces. My Husband also enjoyed them...I hope the Saskatchewan Governent will pick up on this site and help you with it! I am in B.c, but if we need to go for a leisure trip..we now know were to go.
