Downy Woodpecker

Downy Woodpecker can be distinguished from Hairy
and Nuttall's woodpeckers by the white patch in
the middle of the back, it's small size (this one
was about the size of a white crowned sparrow) and
the proportionally shorter bill. You may want to
compare these field marks with the
Hairy Woodpecker and Nuttal on this page.
