These two bright galaxies (M-81 is on the right) fit easily in a low-power eyepiece and can be seen from light polluted skies and with small aperture telescopes. This shot was taken with a Nikon D300, a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 lens with a 1.4x teleconverter and is a combination of 5 exposures of 5 minutes each. It was taken on a very cold March night at a Wisconsin state park. A special thanks for my good friend Paul Gruener, for his photography expertise and generous equipment loan when my power supply proved inadequate.
